Your lip filler results look their best when you care for your lips well in the first few days. Here is what our nurse injectors tell every client after a lip appointment. Always follow the specific instructions your provider gives you.
The first 24 hours
- Expect swelling and tenderness. Lips often look their fullest on day 1 or 2.
- Use a cold compress wrapped in a cloth for short periods to ease swelling.
- Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol and very hot drinks for the day.
- Avoid pressing or massaging your lips unless your injector asks you to.
Days 2 to 7
- Swelling settles a little more each day. If you bruise, it usually fades within about a week.
- Sleep with your head slightly raised for the first night or two.
- Hold off on lip products with strong plumping ingredients for a few days.
- Plan photos and events at least 1 to 2 weeks after your appointment.
When you will see your final result
Most swelling is gone by about two weeks, and that is when you see your true shape. It is also a good time for a follow-up if you want to fine-tune. Lip filler typically lasts 9 to 12 months, though some people metabolize it faster.
