What Are Vascular Lesions?

Visible blood vessels treated with precision

At Aesthetic Beauty Lab in Apple Valley, MN, our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus uses Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength to safely treat vascular lesions across all skin types. The deep-penetrating wavelength reaches vessels beneath the skin surface for thorough clearance, and the reduced melanin absorption makes it one of the safest vascular lasers available, including for darker skin tones.

We treat cherry angiomas, broken capillaries, facial telangiectasia, and small spider veins. We do not treat varicose veins or large, raised vessels. We refer those to a vein specialist when needed.

Serving Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Lakeville, Rosemount, Farmington, Bloomington, Prior Lake, Savage, Minneapolis, and Saint Paul.

Step by Step

How vascular laser works at ABL

01

Consultation

We assess vessel type, depth, and skin tone. Some vessels are ideal for laser; others require sclerotherapy referral. We are honest about which is which.

02

Targeted Pulse

The Candela Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength targets oxyhemoglobin in the vessel. Energy converts to heat, sealing the vessel while sparing surrounding tissue.

03

DCD Cooling

A cryogen burst cools the skin before each pulse, protecting the surface and keeping discomfort minimal. No numbing required.

04

Natural Clearance

Vessels gray or blanch immediately, confirming response. The body clears closed vessels over 2 to 6 weeks. Sessions repeat every 4 to 6 weeks as needed.

What We Treat

Vascular concerns

Small bright-red benign blood vessel growths, often called red dots. These respond very well to laser. Often cleared in 1 to 2 sessions. The spot darkens immediately (this is expected) and clears gradually over 2 to 4 weeks.

Fine dilated vessels visible through the skin, often on the face. Conservative Nd:YAG 1064 nm settings ensure safety on delicate facial tissue. Most clients see significant clearance in 1 to 3 sessions with progressive fading over 2 to 6 weeks.

Chronic dilation of superficial capillaries, typically around the nose, cheeks, and chin. The Nd:YAG laser precisely seals these vessels for a clearer complexion. Immediate graying or blanching after treatment confirms an effective response.

Small superficial veins with a web-like appearance, common on legs and face. The laser improves fine, flat, superficial spider veins in a safe treatment zone. Bulging or large-diameter veins require sclerotherapy instead.

We do not treat varicose veins, deep or large-diameter veins, raised or bulging vessels, or medically significant veins. These require sclerotherapy or evaluation by a vein specialist. We assess every client at consultation and refer when appropriate.

Our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus uses the Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength, which is one of the safest vascular lasers available, including for darker skin tones. The deeper-penetrating wavelength reduces melanin absorption risk, making it safe across the full Fitzpatrick spectrum. We cannot treat clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection or herpes outbreak in the area, have recent tanning or sunburn, suspicious lesions requiring medical evaluation, used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 6 months, or have bleeding disorders.

The laser targets oxyhemoglobin, the pigment found in blood. Laser energy is selectively absorbed by the vessel, causing it to heat up and collapse, while surrounding tissue is left unharmed. The body then naturally clears the closed vessel over the following weeks. The Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength penetrates deeper than other lasers for more thorough clearance and reduces melanin absorption risk for safer treatment of all skin tones.

Cherry angiomas typically need 1 to 2 sessions 4 weeks apart, often cleared after the first. Broken capillaries need 1 to 3 sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart. Small spider veins need 3 to 6 sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart. We assess and confirm a plan at consultation.

Mild redness and swelling for 24 to 48 hours is normal. Vessels appear gray or darker immediately, confirming effective treatment. Lesions darken then fade naturally over 2 to 4 weeks. Do not pick or scratch. Let them clear naturally.

Most clients describe each pulse as a quick rubber-band snap followed immediately by cooling. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus includes a built-in Dynamic Cooling Device that protects the skin and keeps discomfort minimal. No topical numbing is typically needed.

Cherry angiomas start at $299 for up to 5 spots. Facial vessels start at $350. Small leg spider veins start at $450. Final pricing depends on lesion count and area size, confirmed at consultation.

Vessels successfully closed by the laser are permanently sealed. However, new vessels can form over time due to genetics, sun exposure, hormonal changes, or aging. Annual maintenance sessions are common for clients prone to vascular concerns.
