HydraFacial vs. Chemical Peel: Which Is Right for You?

Both leave skin brighter and smoother, but they work in very different ways. Here is how to choose.

Both a HydraFacial and a chemical peel leave your skin brighter and smoother, but they work differently and fit different goals. Here is a simple way to choose.

HydraFacial in short

A HydraFacial cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates in one visit, with no downtime. It is ideal before an event, for dull or dehydrated skin, and as monthly maintenance. At ABL, HydraFacials are $150 (Signature), $200 (Deluxe) or $250 (Platinum).

Chemical peel in short

A chemical peel uses a professional solution to remove damaged outer layers of skin. We offer Glytone peels and the VI Peel. Peels go deeper than a facial, so they are better for sun spots, uneven tone, acne marks and fine lines. Expect a few days of peeling afterward, depending on the peel.

Quick comparison

  • Downtime: HydraFacial none. Peels a few days of flaking.
  • Best for: HydraFacial for glow and hydration. Peels for pigment, texture and acne marks.
  • How often: HydraFacial monthly. Peels usually as a series, spaced a few weeks apart.
  • Every skin tone: both can be safe for all skin tones when chosen and prepped correctly by your provider.

Can you do both?

Yes. Many clients use a HydraFacial for maintenance and add a peel series in fall and winter, when there is less sun. See all our facials and chemical peels.

Fall promo: 3 VI Peels or 3 SkinPen sessions for $850, regularly $900 for 3. See current specials.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better for acne marks, a HydraFacial or a peel?

A chemical peel usually does more for acne marks and uneven tone, because it works deeper. A HydraFacial is great for clearing congestion and keeping skin clear between peels.

Which is better before a wedding or event?

A HydraFacial, because there is no downtime. If you want a peel, plan it at least a week or two before the event so any peeling is finished.

Can I get a chemical peel if I have darker skin?

Yes, when the peel is chosen and prepped correctly. Your provider will pick a peel and strength that suits your skin type.

How much does a HydraFacial cost at ABL?

HydraFacials are $150 for the Signature, $200 for the Deluxe and $250 for the Platinum.
